Kanye West Banned From UK, Forcing Wireless Festival To Cancel - HipHopDX

Wireless Festival Canceled After Kanye West Denied Entry to UK

April 7, 2026

The Wireless Festival has officially been canceled after Kanye West, its headliner, was denied entry into the UK. The festival organizers announced on April 7 that due to the Home Office's decision to ban Ye from entering the country, all ticket holders will receive a full refund.

This unexpected cancellation comes amidst growing pressure from major sponsors, advocacy groups, and UK leaders who expressed concerns over the festival's decision to feature the controversial artist. Prominent brands such as Pepsi, Paypal, and Diageo withdrew their sponsorships in protest of Ye's booking, while UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer labeled the situation as "deeply concerning."

Reports indicate that Kanye applied for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK, but his application was rejected, citing that his presence would not serve the public good. In response to the backlash surrounding his planned performances, West stated his intent to foster change and unity through his music, even expressing a willingness to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews responded positively to West's openness for dialogue, but stipulated that they would only meet with him after he agrees not to perform at the festival this year.

Interestingly, prior to the ban and cancellation, Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, defended Kanye, stating that while he finds Ye's past comments abhorrent, he believes in the importance of forgiveness and second chances. Benn emphasized that the festival was not offering Kanye a platform to express his views, but rather to perform his music that is enjoyed by many.

Kanye was slated to headline all three nights of the Wireless Festival from July 10 to 12. Meanwhile, he has not faced similar backlash in the U.S., recently performing two sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, featuring guest appearances from artists like Lauryn Hill, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver.
